Spoon is first 80/35 headliner

Texas indie band Spoon will headline the first night of the July 3-4 80/35 Music Festival at Western Gateway Park.

“Spoon is a band that has been simmering for years,” 80/35 Project Manager Amedeo Rossi said. “They have a big buzz about them and are a band that hasn’t been here.”

Four other bands were announced. On July 3 Slightly Stoopid, an acoustic reggae/punk group from California, Earl Greyhound, a blues rock group from Brooklyn, NY, and the Ankeny band Modern Day Satire perform. New Jersey jam band Railroad Earth is the only band currently scheduled for July 4.

The Des Moines Music Coalition, organizers of 80/35, plan to announce a few bands each Monday, including the Sunday headliner in coming weeks. A total of more than 40 bands are expected to be announced, featuring a mix of local and national acts.

Tickets are currently $25 for one day, $40 for two days and $175 for the two-day VIP pass through Midwestix. Once tickets priced at that level sell out they will raise to $35 for one day and $60 for both days.
