The Envy Corps get a burger named after them
The Envy Corps has a show coming up Nov. 2 at The Maintenance Shop in Ames. But if you don't want to make the trek up to Ames you can enjoy the band in undead burger form at Zombie Burger.
The restaurant recently unveiled a few new creations, including The Envy Corpse, a burger with pepper jack cheese, pulled pork, ham, salsa, fried jalapenos, red onion and chipotle mayo.
That sounds pretty awesome. I called up The Envy Corps' Brandon Darner do find out the story behind the burger.
"My wife and I have been fans of George's (Formaro) food for a long time; we've been eating his bread for years. We started hearing that the guy who owns Gateway, Django and Centro was doing a new restaurant right across the street and realized the guy who makes our favorite bread also runs our favorite restaurants.
"I reached out and said we were fans and gave them the idea of doing a The Envy Corpse burger. It seemed like a no-brainer. In England a lot of times people pronounce 'corps' like 'corpse,' and sometimes they even mispelled our name that way. It was maddening. We're not a metal band.
"A couple of weeks ago we went over and tried some sample burgers George had made. We had another idea in mind, with Kool Aid infused pickles. It would be red pickles, which we thought would look really cool. But at the last minute George had an idea for this other burger. We wanted it to be spicy, so we suggested jalapenos and he incorporated some of our ideas.
"The first thing that made me think of it was that Raygun has a burger. So I figured they would be open to this sort of idea."
The band kicks off a run of shows next week, with dates in Chicago, Minneapolis and Iowa City. Darner said the band is editing together the live performance footage from their performance of "It Culls You" at The ARC Studio in Omaha, and that the group will be writing new material soon.
