The National. I was tempted to post a Chris Cornell photo for a "Can't Change Me" reference.

UPDATE: The event will be held Sept. 1 at Living History Farms in Urbandale. Tickets to the event are free and will be distributed at the Organizing for America office, 2932 Ingersoll Ave., starting Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Last night The National and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell made similar posts on their Twitter accounts. Here's from The National's:

"Proud to support again in 2012. We'll be opening for him in Des Moines on Sept 1. Follow for details. "

Meanwhile, Cornell's account (which had only one other tweet in the last month) just had a slightly different pronoun:

"Proud to support again in 2012. I’ll be opening for him in Des Moines on Sat, Sept 1—follow for details. "

OFA_IA is the Iowa Obama for America Twitter account. I fired off an email to the Obama campaign last night, and they confirmed the event, but not where it would be/when it would be other than Saturday. I'll pass along more details once I have them.

Kid Rock made an appearances for Mitt Romeny Friday in Wisconsin, though so far none in Iowa. As the campaign heats up I wouldn't be surprised to see that change.

One music/politician appearance I can give some more concrete details on is Poison Control Center's Patrick Tape Fleming opening for Obama on Tuesday, Aug. 28 in Ames. The event is happening at 10:30 a.m., Central Campus at Iowa State University.
