Two memorial concerts in the next week
Two memorial concerts over the next eight days to pay tribute to two popular Des Moines residents.
The first is for Ryan Braaksma, who died earlier this month at the age of 32. Braaksma was a member of Empyrean, The Roze Band, Smokin' Whiskey, Big Balls, and Alister Hag and was in the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The First Annual Ryan Braaksma Memorial Concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at People's Court. The lineup is:
4 p.m.: House band with performances from Braaksma's music students.
5 p.m.: Electric Assault
5:30 p.m.: Dark Mirror
6 p.m.: Tyler Thompson Band
6:30 p.m.: On a Pale Horse
7 p.m.: The Jitz
7:30 p.m.: Junk Poet
8 p.m.: Alister Hag with special guests
9 p.m.: Jethro's All Star Jam (open jam)
Braaksma would have been 33 on the 27th.
On July 28 People's will host tribute concert for Warren Morrow, an advocate for Latino businesses and founder of the Latino Leadership PRoject. Morrow passed away in February of a heart condition. The 28th would have been his 35th birthday.
Performing at the concert will be Estrofia, Making Movies and Izcali. From midnight to 2 p.m. there will be a DJ dance party. The first ever Warren Morrow Latino Leader of the Year award will also be presented that night. PRoceeds from the show will go toward the Warren Morrow Latino Community Betterment Grant.
The Morrow tribute starts at 8 p.m. July 28.
