Yo La Tengo is final 80/35 mainstager

On Friday 80/35 organizers posted a few clues to the final mainstage band on the festival's Twitter account: "indie icon" and "40,343." Turns out that's how many MySpace friends Hoboken group Yo La Tengo has. The band plays 80/35 on July 3.

People may remember there being a late opening on July 4 on the 80/35 website. That's Yo La Tengo, but some last minute shuffling put them on the third.

Tengo is known for incorporating incorporating covers into its set list. I'm not talking "Mustang Sally," but pretty obscure stuff like "Andalucia" by John Cale and "Emulsified" by Rex Garvin and the Mighty Cravers.

And bands sometimes cover Yo La Tengo originals as well. Like 80/35 headliner Spoon, who did a cover of Tengo's "Decora." You can download an MP3 of that here. 

The other band added is the California act Dawes.They play on July 4. It will be earlier in the day, since Dawes is part of the Daytrotter Barnstormer show that day in Maquoketa.

80/35 organizers also announced details on the 2010 80/35 Play In. Bands can sign up Tuesday through June 2 on Wellmark's Facebook page. Voting will be held June 3-9, with a the top five bands playing June 16 at People's Court. The band with the most votes at the concert gets the noon spot July 3 at the festival.
