Why you might know them: The band has opened for fellow Athens, Ga. band R.E.M., and R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills said Modern Skirts is his favorite Athens band. Mills also produced a song on Modern Skirts’ recent album, “All of Us In Our Night.”

Why you should care: They’re known for lively stage shows, and have 90s rock ties beyond R.E.M.: David Lowery, whose band Cracker performed at 80/35 last year, also produced tracks on Modern Skirts’ last album.
