Another year, another strong 52 weeks in Des Moines’ getting-better-every-day local music scene. New venues, huge concerts, record-breaking festivals: Sure, Des Moines is no Portland or New York or Chicago, but we don’t need to be. Our music guru Joe Lawler compiled this year’s Mixie Awards list to celebrate and honor the musicians, scenesters and behind-the-scenes players who kicked ass and made an impact in central Iowa’s music universe.
