The 2012 Mixies
Artists, musicians and actors don’t create so they can win awards. They do it for the love of their craft. But the people who give out the awards? They totally do it to get cool people on their awards shows or to grace the pages of their magazines. Um, but not us. We’re artists of award-giving, doing it for totally selfless reasons.
With that, here’s our unbiased look at the last year in the Des Moines music scene. Winners of the third annual Metromix Mixies Awards (and yes, some actually get awards, created with some old vinyl and the creative genius handiwork of Basemint) were carefully selected by music writer Joe Lawler. We also let readers select their favorite local act for the first time. The Mixies are a celebration of the central Iowa music scene, one that continues to progress and grow with each year.
