Burger wars: Francie’s Con Queso Burger

Francie’s Con Queso Burger
Eat it: Francie’s Con Queso Burger, $7.95, Francie's, 2100 Wakonda View Drive.
Info: 285-5207
You might chuckle at the thought of eating a burger with a knife and fork. After all, not much is more preposterous, except George Costanza eating a Snickers bar with a knife and fork. But order up Francie’s Con Queso Burger and you’ll see why the waitress brought you the silver. First, there’s no top of the bun. Instead, nestled on the plate amid a pile of French fries is a regular ol’ hamburger patty topped with about two soup ladle-fuls of mildly spicy cheesy goodness. Somewhere under all that beef and cheese is the bottom of a toasted bun. No ketchup required — not even for the fries, as that queso was made for fry-dipping. You can put your fork down when you’re ready to lick the plate.

My favorite burger spots

Everyone loves the good old all-American burger. Sometimes I'm in the mood for the classic cheeseburger, and sometimes I like more of a twist. Here are some of my favorite spots.
