You have five days to try to get a reservation made for New Year’s Eve. Here’s a look at what four local restaurants are doing to motivate you and whet your appetite.
Proof, 1301 Locust St. Three and five course meals with options including quick fried buttermilk oysters with cream spinach and horseradish foam; tasso-sweet potato consomme and fried black-eyed peas; lobster and mussels in a lobster-sherry broth with toasted almonds; baby fennel and croustini; an seared petite tenderloin on roasted sweet potato puree with black licorice grilled green onion; vadouvan-glazed beef with pomegranate oases; roasted cauliflower and carrot. For dessert a sorbet trio, seared ricotta salata and triple chocolate ridiculousness. Seatings at 5:30 and 8 p.m. $45 for three courses, $65 for five. $5 surcharge for lobster.
Americana, 1312 Locust St. Special New Year’s Eve menu features mussels diavolo ($10) served with garlic bread; featured entrees including a 12-ounce prime rib ($24) with white cheddar mashed potatoes, seared asparagus and an au jus with cream horseradish sauce; and a potato encrusted swordfish ($24) with caper chive aioli, roasted garlic lentil succotash and carrot puree. Suggested cocktail is a peach Champagne float ($6). Starting at 9:30 p.m. Americana will host a New Year’s Eve party with an open bar and music by DJ 248 for $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
Django, 210 10th St. A fixed menu includes smoked Iowa corn bisque and poached lobster ($5.99), a lobster egg roll appetizer with wakame salad and habanero ketchup ($13.99), short rib Oscar ($30.99) and crepes with hazelnut gelato, cherry brandy sauce, whipped cream and candied hazelnuts ($7).
Tally’s Restaurant, 2712 Beaver Ave. Featured entrees are a 12 ounce dry-aged Delmonico sirloin, peppercorn steak fire grilled ($35.99) as well as a 14-16 ounce prime rib, dry aged and mesquite smoked, then topped with a brandy demi-glaze ($25.99). Both dishes are served with Iowa bacon duchess potatoes and grilled jumbo asparagus and choice of salad or soup of the day. The Soul Searchers start performing at 8 p.m.
