We know we said “No burgers.” The thing is, Gill T’s may call this a burger, but this is an Italian sausage sandwich. We’re not going to let semantics over the name keep us from spotlighting this awesome piece of work. We’ll start with the basics: A half-pound of Graziano sausage, cooked to perfection. Frankly, if a central Iowa restaurant has an Italian sausage sandwich made without Graziano’s, it would seem a little suspicious. It’s a thick slab of meat (burger-like, but seriously, it’s not a burger), with just a bit of spiciness to it.
But is a bit of spice ever enough? No, no it is not. Gill T’s amps things up with its bottle cap jalapenos, basically deep-fried jalapeno slices. Each tiny disc of flavor intensifies the heat, gradually turning up the sandwich’s slow burn as you eat it. Top it off with some marinara and mozzarella cheese and you have a thing of beauty. They could call it a bottle cap soup for all I care, as long as it tastes this good.
