Who loves it: Tiffany DeJager, 29
About the dish: DeJager first tried the Phad Thai at Rolling Wok about a year ago during a lunch meeting downtown. The dish was suggested by a co-worker and quickly became one of DeJager's favorite meals.
The dish is made with rice noodles stir-fried with a protein (DeJager gets tofu), egg, bean sprouts, scallions and is topped with ground peanut. DeJager finds the sauce added on some restaurants overpowering, but said Rolling Wok puts on "just enough to be good."
"Whatever they do, it's perfect," she said.
The lunch special includes steamed rice (fried rice is available for 50 cents extra), a crab rangoon and the soup of the day.
She's sampled food off other peoples' plates, but she always comes back to the Phad Thai (also spelled "Pad Thai" at other restaurants) for her own meal.
Why she keeps ordering it: DeJager isn't crazy about her food being too spicy, and she's found Rolling Wok gets her order right every time. "I've tried Pad Thai other places, and they have the best in town," she said. "I'm not downtown that often, but when in Rome, that's what I get."
She makes it downtown for a lunch meeting about every other month, and when she does, Rolling Wok is what she always suggests to lunch guests.
The price is another factor for DeJager. She can get the special and a soda for less than $10, making it an economic-conscious lunch.
