Battle's is Southern-style barbecue served in a fun, throwback atmosphere. Expect red checkered tablecloths, vintage tin advertisements, lots of faded red wood and wagon wheels on the walls. Ames is home to a select few barbecue joints worth talking about, and this place is at the top of that list. Pork spare ribs, rib tips and chicken dinners are on the menu, but for the budget-minded barbecue fan, the cheap sandwiches ($4.50 for regular size, $5.50 for large) are the ticket. Definitely grab a glass of lemonade, too.
