New restaurants on 4th Street

This bit was in the Register's Biz Buzz this morning, and I thought it might be of interest to readers:

Fourth Street news: Last summer, the Trattoria and Pasticceria restaurants had to close when floodwaters backed up into the basement of Des Moines's oldest commercial building at 207 Fourth St.

Six months later, those same spaces are home to two new restaurants, Chianti and Corigliano's Underworld, said Bruce Gerleman, who owns the 1868 Hawkeye Building.

After the flood, he said, workers had to tear out the concrete basement and dig down 7 feet to install back-flow valves.

Chianti opened before Christmas in the space the Trattoria was in. It's owned by the Robles family that's been selling breakfast burritos at the Downtown Farmers Market and to late-night Court Avenue patrons for years, Gerleman said. Chianti is open for lunch and dinner and offers international cuisine.

Corigliano's opens this week. It will serve late-night pizza until 4 a.m., as well as lunch and dinner.
