The cute college town of Mount Vernon, Ia. (population 4,171), is home to this contemporary main street café. Chef/owner Matt Steigerwald opened his venue in 2001 after stints in kitchens of the South Atlantic, including the renowned Magnolia Grill, which is to the east coast what Chez Panisse is to the West Coast: a restaurant that many a chef has passed through on the way to greatness.
