Snookies Malt Shop is synonymous with summer in Des Moines. (People even camp out to get the first cone of the season.) There's a small indoor dining area, but most people savor the sunshine with their ice cream and sit outside. Bring your puppy and ask for a puppy cone.

- Food specialties: Ice cream. Ask for a little cone for your puppy. Medium chocolate malts are best-seller. Iced coffee latte is new. Turtle on a stick is like having a turtle Sundae on a stick. Dipped frozen bananas.
