I have gotta say that if you all have not tried Sam & Louie's New York Pizzeria on 86th & Hickman, you are missing out! That is by far the best pizza I have ever had outside of New York. Tha Calzones are the best I have ever had, anywhere!

I like the pizza at Bagni di Lucca on East Fifth in the EV.

I am thinking maybe Blowtorch works at Hilltop? Anyway, its only five pies, and it is the writers opinion. Someone is always going to feel snubbed in this sort of article, but "Des Moines Top 13 pies" just doesn't have the same ring to it. People agreeing on what is the best pizza is just as unlikely as agreeing on best BBQ. Not gonna happen, but it is nice to see all of the other opinions. Lots of great pizza in this town.

the best pizza in Des moines, cant be bought for any price! I make it! Home made crust, sauce, and toppings, whole milk cheeese! During the colder months, I bring a couple of pizzas into the Waveland on Sunday night (about 8:00). if you want a piece, you better be johnny on the spot, or it's gone!

As a pizza connoisseur, I have to say that a couple of these choices are a bit questionable. I travel the country in search of outstanding pizza and one of my favorites is Rock Power Pizza. Excellent service, lots of ingredients, and a quality product every time. Its a small, quaint place that I think must focus on delivery (I've never had them deliver...I always go there), but its worth going to.

Hill top is better than all those picks

If Hilltop did not make the list then they did not try all the places in town or the writer was afraid to come over to the Eastside.

I would have included HillTop Restaurant on my list.
