Ah Boswells - no better place in the world to eat breakfast. I remember drowning 'break-up' sorrows in a huge plate of scrambled eggs and hash browns!!!! I have been looking for something comperable . . . anything!

Best breakfast--Granite City!! Best coffee we've ever had, best Bloody Mary's, and at the Sunday brunch buffet--an Eggs Benedict bar--any way you like 'em, and many ways you may not have even thought of. All the food was excellent as well as the service.

I had no idea about the pumpkin pancakes at the Drake Diner! Im not really a pancake person-usually prefer the eggs and hashbrowns, but I love everything pumpkin. Im checking these out for sure.

Glad to see I'm not alone with Boswell's. Many's the time a beer went with those Primo Hash Brown's

@crazygravy - You are kidding, right? Boswell's is and was legendary breakfast in Des Moines. The hashbrowns were the best in the world. There are many people that remember them, and the place was open into the 90s, if memory serves.

The VILLAGE INN in Ankeny does not have fresh pies. They sit around in their places for days before someone buys them. We have bought 3 different times. The pumpkin had lost it's flavor altogether,. The mourgine one had to be cut through with a knife and the fruit one was old.

No one will have ever heard of this but......Years ago in the late 70's - 80's there was a place in the Drake area called Boswell's. Select Foods. Their Primo Hash-browns were the best. See Jim and the Boswell family I still remember.

Where else but Florene's can you pick out something from their bakery case to go with your eggs? The pecan rolls are the best anywhere.

I thought I mentioned that under the picture of the other burrito. The chorizo breakfast burrito there is awesome. I may have to have one this weekend.....yummy.

As for Breakfast Burritos @ the Farmer's market, PLEASE if you haven't tried the breakfast burrito stand in the parking lot next to Chianti & Corilanos you are missing out. The Breakfast burrito is great, but for a real authentic treat, order the chorizo burrito. Its nice & big with amazing chorizo sausage, then top it with cilantro, sals, sour cream & whatever you want. It's 10x better than the farm boyz one & its cheaper @ only $4.50. If this sounds like I work for them, believe me I don't, I just can't believe people wait so long for a more expensive & lesser burrito. Try it once & thank me later.

Mr. Filet is the absolute best breakfast you can find downtown! Not just the steak and eggs, but everything!

While Florene's belgium waffle is absolutely the best in town, everyone should really experience The Marlow. Created with the help of a long-time customer, the Marlow consists of a crisp serving of hashbrowns, topped with a couple of the best scrambled eggs ever (I know - how hard can it be to scramble an egg - trust me, Chef Mauer has it nailed), then an amazing sausage sauce (not really a heavy gravy) is blanketed over the top, complete with tender bite-sized pieces of tender sausage. You're missing out if you've never experience The Marlow!

Hmm, had never heard of it. Definitely on my list now. Probably try it this weekend. I looked it up on here, and it sounds like fun. Thanks for the tips. :D

Chef Joes Place is located on the north side of the East Village, not far from Alba. The only bummer is they are not open for Sunday breakfast. Here's the address: 621 Des Moines St. Des Moines, IA 50309

Where is the Haystack meal found? Have to try Flannigan's Mess, too. Never had it. Hmm, keep em coming! I am always up for a new breakfast idea.

A couple of my favorites that did not make the list are Chef Joe's Haystack meal and Flannigan's Mels Mess. These two meals are giant mix of breakfast favorites on one plate.

All of these are good options, really. I am a huge breakfast fan and have had most of the dishes mentioned in this article. My vote is for Ken's. Nothing fancy, but just good, small town style diner food. Nice friendly service and a clean restaurant. Meet you there for some tasty B-fast!
