I love Gusto's crust--and the fun of trying their temporary pizza specials when I'm in the mood for something different than my usual "Scampi".

Red Rossa is the only acceptable pizza to us. There is no "New York" style pizza in Des Moines. We've tried every place. Only way to get New Yor...

WINNER: Jersey Guys Pizza
Thanks to reality TV, New Jersey has a lot to answer for. But you can put Jersey Guys Pizza next to “The Sopranos” in the plus column to help balance out Snooki and “Jerseylicious.”
The restaurant isn’t just cashing in on the Jersey hype; the Bavas family is Jersey born and bred. Nick Bavas, 24, missed the pizza from his home state and opened Jersey Guys with his family. Des Moines is better because of it.
The shop recently debuted a new specialty pie, the chicken parm pizza. It’s breaded chicken, marinara, mozzarella and Parmesan. It’s everything that’s great about a chicken Parmesan sandwich, but in pizza form. Seriously, breaded chicken is the new pepperoni.
It’s such a simple idea, and therein lies the appeal. The only problem is where does pizza go from here? The Bavas family must feel a bit like Alexander the Great; what do you do when there are no more worlds to conquer?
