Black Market Pizza

The restaurant was clean, wait staff was friendly, and service was timely. We kick started dinner with a six piece order of bread sticks, which were soft and buttery, and followed up with an order of fried veggies, dipped in a batter with just a hint of beer. Things were tasting good! We placed an order for Chicago style pizza knowing it was a 40 minute wait and it came out on time. What we got was not Chicago style. It consisted of a very tough thin type crust (even after I requested a knife I couldn't put a dent in the crust) with minimal sauce on the bottom, followed up with a very heavy layer of large, chunky tomatoes caked on the top (not the traditional chunks with sauce). Those who've lived in Chicago know a traditional Chicago style pizza is made with a heavy, thick crust and large amounts of cheese, sauce, and ingredients. This pizza missed the mark. While I believe in supporting local venues and would go back for a different item on the menu, we won't go back for the "Chicago" style pizza.

I recently had a chance to interview one of the owners and main chef at Black Market Pizza-it was one of the most interesting conversations Ive ever had. In a nutshell-he was living in his car not long ago, and was just recently laid off from his newly found job. He and his partners have invested everything they have in this dream of a pizza joint. And-a great story isnt all they have. The pizza is incredible unique and delicious! Try the cornmeal crust, its like nothing I have ever tasted. Flavorful, but doesn't take over the pizza. I cant wait to try their pizza modeled after a Big Mac!
