Chuck's Restaurant
A sausage and cappicola pizza from Chuck's. (Arturo Fernandez/Juice)

A Des Moines icon that has been around for more than 50 years. Several items on their Italian-American menu are homemade, including several salad dressings. They also make cracker-thin crust pizzas. Chuck's also has several dining rooms where the decor takes you right to your grandparents' basement. Not a lot has changed there in 50 years, and that's what makes it so great.

Kick it old school

The best restaurants where you can dine in retro style because not much has changed in a long time.

Must-eat pizzas

It's nearly impossible for a "best pizza" list to be a consensus list, but these are places I would be remiss not to recommend.
