Utter the word "pizza" among Amesians, ISU students and alumni, and here's the place they'll talk about. Main Street's beloved pizza spot, home to thick, whole wheat crust (called Denver Style) that tastes just as good dipped in honey as ladled with spoonfuls of hearty sauce and great toppings. Call ahead on game days and weekend nights — it gets busy here, deservedly so.

Anyone who says they havent found good pizza in Des Moines is living under a rock! With Des Moines's large Italian population there are some amazing authentic south side spots as well as some very creative pizza chefs around the area.
