I remember years ago getting a Champagne Cake from Barbaras Bakery on Ingersoll Ave. This was the best cake I have ever eaten. I got one from the Highland Park Bakery.
It was a Chanpaigne Cake but seemed not to have the rich Frosting as Barbaras. Barbaras had a Cream Frosting and Highland seems like a powder sigar frosting
It was good though at the price of $15.00

If you want amazing, fresh, homemade pastries in Des Moines, this is the place to go. There really isn't much more to say. A box filled with 2 dozen assorted rolls and doughnuts can be had for under $20. The quality of the pastries makes the extra drive worth it for people on the out-skirts of town. Your friends and co-workers will notice and appreciate the extra effort that goes into them and thank you.
Best in Des Moines, and a classic.

The Highland Pastry brings back memories of stopping for a donut on the way to school for 15 cents. The nutty-fry rolls are my favorite - crushed nuts on top of a white, creamy frosting. Still has the same feel, look and smells as it it did 35 years ago - a classic!
