Home Plate Diner: User Reviews
Home Plate Diner
304 E. 30th St. - Des Moines515-262-7000
I gone to Home Plate Diner a few times and it seems to go down hill every time I visit.
The service is never good. The staff seems lost . They claim that the food is home
made , but only percent of is .Their hours are not the best . They close at 8 p.m.
They should have kept 4 Seasons opened. Visit at own risk ????????????

I have to admit, I've lived through three installments of the diner on 30th and Walnut and there have been some highs and lows. BUT...after the Home Plate got up and running the food has been pretty darn good.
Like any eating establishment there are some excellent waiters/waitresses and some not so good. I especially love Nancy...ask for her and you will always enjoy your meal!
I highly recommend the Ruben, the French Dip and the Fried Chicken! Crinkle fries are always the bomb...but how do you screw up frozen french fries!
The owner is a character and takes some getting used to. He likes to hear himself talk BUT he is engaged with the patrons and he grows on you. Nice Guy.
