Miyabi is consisently good. Waterfront used to be, they're #2 but sometimes miss. Samurai impressed me once but has been just lousy ever since.

It's Miyabi #1 for me. 2nd best is harder to tell - ultimately depends on who has the freshest fish at the time. I'd say Appare.

So who is better? Maybe I missed someplace? Samauri? Myabi 9? Waterfront? Wok in Motion? Appare? China One? Panda? HyVee? Costco? Lets hear it...

Best sushi in town? Are you kidding? It's on par with Taki at best; loose rolls and smelly fish. I'm sorry for making a joke there Marty. Maybe you should tell the True World Foods delivery guy to quit giving you the week old stuff. And krab has its place... unless the menu says crab - like Sakari's does.

The imitation crab stuff is called surimi, isn't it? Some sort of white fish? I find it in a lot of Asian restaurants around town. I just can't see faulting a place for using that vs. real king crab when you consider the cost. Also, a lot of them will substitute the authentic king crab, if it is that big of a deal to you, it will only cost about 4 times as much.

I've had sushi just about everywhere in DSM. In my opinion, Sakari is by far the best. A good balance of cost vs. quality and enough specialty rolls to please any appetite. The nigiri is the perfect size, not too big, not too small, and the service is acceptable, but better sitting at the bar.

I haven't eaten at Sakari, so can't comment on their food, but I agree with marty - I couldn't tell you one sushi restaurant that doesn't use imitation crab at least in one of their rolls. Even though it isn't crab, it is still fish, and it has its place.

Find me a restaurant in town that doesn't use imitation crab in any of their rolls and I will never eat at another sushi restaurant again. Also, TRUE WORLD FOODS out of Chicago, not Sysco. Do some homework before leaving uneducated comments.

really though, giving 3 stars to a sushi restaurant that uses krab seems a bit generous.
