The look: GT is all biker bar, with a life-sized racing mural, vintage auto flair and an old car engine turned pool table spotlight. The lounge is tucked away in its cozy Ingersoll digs and is the kind of place where regulars would rather chat up the long-time bartenders over parking themselves at one of the bar's many booths (granite-topped, by the way). The weekday we stopped in, cute votive candles added a bit of mood lighting to the offbeat bar.
The crowd: Stories of local characters finding their way to GT are likely legit. On weekends, the bar is especially packed. The evening we visited, it was just us and a bar counter filled with fans of bartender Natasha Osmond. Most seemed to know each other well enough to even split a pizza. Regulars breezed in an out for a nicotine fix and Osmond, 30, checked in with us on her way to the door for a quickie smoke. These folks were a friendly crew.
The two drinks: All extra credit for a freebie Argentinian beer sample aside, the visit to GT ranks near the top of my Two Drinks experiences. We chased a raspberry kamikaze down with a strawberry cheesecake cocktail. First impressions prepared me for a gulp full of sugary frou-frou. Surprisingly, I couldn't put it down. The kamikaze, a shaken shot of Stoli Raspberry, Raspberry Schnapps, Triple Sec, sour and 7-Up, resembled a Crystal Light drink. Osmond also threw in her go-to choice of dozens of bottled beers featured at GTs. The Quilmes is a mild lager that's self-proclaimed "Argentina's favorite beer."
The grub: The folks at the bar who phoned in Paul Revere's pizza had the right idea.
The verdict: The offbeat patrons of this biker-themed bar, mixed with cozy touches like candles and jazz, make for a welcoming spot to visit over a bottle of specialty beer. Stop in on a weekend for a livelier crowd.
