The food is fun and different, with choices like the Chocolate and Blue salad and the Pumpkin salad livening up the lunch menu. The chicken salad is also popular, but Flarah's is best known for its desserts. The cheesecakes come in a variety of flavors, and the brownies and lemon bars make the perfect treat. Flarah's caters both small business lunches and full-service events, and a catering menu is available on their Web site.

They offer call ahead orders, so if you're pressed for time over your lunch break, tell them when you'd like your order to be ready, and it'll be there when you arrive to pick it up. Lunch can get pretty busy, so expect a crowd from area workers and high school lunchers.

301 E. First St. - AnkenyIf you want the best barbeque in Ankeny, Bandana's is the place to be. Featuring the Family Feast which, you guessed it, is big enough to feed a family-sized group of people. Bandana's has a full menu to suit any barbecue lover. Don't forget to check out the party room and catering services.
Gyro's Grill
2831 Douglas Ave. - Des MoinesThis small white building next to Plaza Lanes serves up Chicago-style gyro sandwiches, as well as hamburgers, gyro and Bosnian pizzas, and homemade baklava. Order your food at the drive-up window, then take your order to a nearby picnic table when the weather is nice. Owner Jasmin Mrvoljak says he hopes to open the inside of the building for indoor seating soon.
Perfect Games
1320 Dickinson Ave. - AmesPerfect Games packs 24 pro bowling lanes, arcade games, laser tag, pizza and beer all into one locale. The V.I.P. bowling section sparkles with Technicolor LED lights and has about 20 oversized flat-screen TVs. An arcade is situated between the two sets of lanes. The restaurant, Kingpin's Pizza, has a menu that strays from your traditional game-place grub.
The Last Stand Bar & Grill
6611 University Ave., Suite 101 - Windsor HeightsThe Last Stand sits next to Mustard's in Windsor Heights, and is actually named after the neighboring restaurant's original name, Mustard's Last Stand. The two businesses also have the same owners. The Last Stand is a small, clean and cozy bar, with dark walls and a few mirrored signs serving as the only decoration, leaving a very sit-and-chill atmosphere. The full Mustard's menu is a bonus. Plus, the bar's drink special a quarter for your first domestic draw before 9 p.m. is hard to beat.
