One of my favorite places to eat in Des Moines

I love how you can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at Gateway-and find something for just about anyone in your group. You can order from the cafe menu, get something form the deli counter, sushi counter, or the soup and salad bar. As mentioned in another review-their Happy Hour is a reason to visit alone! $2 glasses of wine from 4:30-6:30. Im always happy with their salads, although I have been unhappy with their sushi on occasion. Its a bit expensive for me to shop in their market for all of my groceries, but I love to stop by for fresh, specialty options. And, I have heard their take home and bake pizza is amazing.

Just average. I am a fan of traditional breakfast, greasy spoon, and I just didn't feel that here. Too loud for me. I'll try again at lunch.

Gateway is one of the best things to happen to Greater Des Moines in years! The cafe features a casual (and affordable) breakfast, lunch and dinner menu that offers something for everyone.
I'm a big fan of happy hour. There's $2 beer & wine from 4:30-6:30pm Mon-Fri.
Another tip: everything in the hot cases goes half off at 8pm. Get there a little early though. The secret is out and folks start milling around about 7:45pm to get in on the special.
The new store in WDM is definitely worth the drive! It's in a new development called Village of Ponderosa (near West Glen, off Mills Civic & 60th).

Do not understand why developers of these restaurants/entertainment venues do not pay more attention to noise levels. While the food is good at Gateway, the noise levels are deafening and it is impossible to carry on a conversation with friends when the place is busy. This is just one of many spots that have opted for use of construction materials that have no sound absorbing qualities and the end result is a room that is impossible to enjoy due to loud noise.
