Went to Taki last night for the first time, and even with reservations for a grill side table, waited for a bit over an hour.
The food was good, and the chef put on a good show, however hearing screaming girls from a couple tables over, loud enough to make your ears about bleed ruined the night.
I agree with the "woo girls" comment whole heartedly, I wouldn't mind going back, but I value my sanity and hearing.

Taki was one of the original sushi spots in Des Moines. I recently visited after not having been for a good year. I forgot how much I love it! Whether your wanting sushi, drinks or the full dinner experience-its a wonderful night out. I love that its a place that you can spend quite a bit of money for a special event or go for half price martini's and a lighter dinner on Wednesday night. It truly is a place with wonderful food and drinks, as the bartenders are all experienced and serve up some great cocktails.

The food is actually pretty good, but that's where the accolades end. The service has been horrendous even time I've been there. The waiters I've had will forget food, will bring a water after asking five times, screw up the order, disappear for long periods of time and always act jumpy and nervous when they are at the table. Plus the waiting area is horrible in this place. If you are eating anywhere near the bar side of the restaurant, you will most likely have someone waiting for a table sitting or standing an arm's length reach away from you. It's very uncomfortable trying to eat and have a conversation when 30 people are watching you eat and listening to your conversation 5 feet away from you as they wait for a table. Plus you have to listen to everyone complain about a wait for a table when you are eating right next to the host stand in the middle of the restaurant. It's just not a pleasant dining experience. Also too many groups of "woo girls" go there after they shut down the hair salon they all work at before they go out drinking for the night. Having to sit by large tables of girls with the same fake black hair dye jobs, doing body shots off and yelling for free sake bombs from the sushi chefs is very annoying. Also I swear the sushi chefs just make whatever they want and don't even care what you ordered. You can order the same rolls every time you go there and they will look and taste different each time. Go to Samurai or Miyabi 9 for sushi, they are both much better.

Taki isnt just a good meal, its a great dining experience. Whether you are there for the Wednesday night martini and sushi special, celebrating with a big group or there for a quiet dinner-the staff ensures you are having a quality experience. It used to be my favorite for sushi, but I think Miyabi 9 and the Waterfront are better-although I always love going to Taki with friends.

Taki is still the best - other Japanese places have tried to take over but Taki has the best total package-

One of my favorite sushi places in the des moines area. The firecracker roll is my favorite. I've never had anything other than Sushi so i cant really comment on the rest of the food. They have a great special on Wednesday nights.
