My favorite restaurant in Des Moines! Went last Wednesday for 1/2 price bottles with Wine Down Wednesday. I was able to buy a bottle of my favorite wine cheaper than I would have at HyVee - GREAT DEAL! They've recently changed the menu to include more appetizers, seasonal features, and huge pizzas (for only $12). I've always loved the Greenbriar, but it seemed like a "special occasion" place - but with the new changes to menu and Wine Down Wednesday, it really has become my new "go-to" place. Always a great time!

I had a great time at Greenbriar. I went on a Wed. night when they offer half price bottles of wine! The wine list is extensive and the food is full of flavor. The service was professional and prompt. The steak De Burgo is my new favorite!!!!

Still smell the smoke in the bar. Good food, but over-priced.

I love Greenbriar; these bad reviews don't make any sense to me. I've dined there somewhere between five and ten times in the past couple years and my meal/service is always great. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Pass this place up! We should have! What an arrogant owner! Next time I'm going to Sam and Gabes!

This is just another overrated, overpriced Trostel venture. I have not seen the value in my visits over the years to his restaurants. I'll stick to the humble Sam & Gabes or Nick's. Those places deliver what they promise and then some!

Went here a couple times lately. It will probably take another visit to see which way I lean for them. On the first visit I got the prime rib/medium rate and it was pretty good. Done as I wanted with a slightly warm center. The wait staff was curious and had a good evening. A couple weeks later I went with a friend about 5:30 to get a quick bite before the game. I didn't want much so I ordered the prime rib sandwich knowing how well it was the last time. Well it turns out it was quite different. I ordered it medium rare and it looked like it was done correctly but I think it was pre-cooked because the whole steak was cool and even the fat around the edges of the cut of meat were hard and not soft like if was freshly cooked. Now I do know a rare or medium rare piece of prime rib won't be blazing hot, but this was definitely not even luke warm. I guess it will take another visit to see if this is such a great restaurant as everyone says. So far it's iffy.

Although the restaurant could use a little work on bringing it up to date (if Greenbriar were near a golf course, many would mistake it for a country club, based on the attire of the patrons and the ambiance), the food remains very solid. It wouldn't hurt for the kitchen to be a little more adventurous, but as the saying goes, don't fix what ain't broken - they know steak here (and unfortunately, some people do not, as prime rib , although not my favorite cut for a steak sandwich, should be cooked rare to medium rare, which means it isn't going to be extremely hot). My suggestion - the 16 oz. NY strip with a glass of a big red wine.

My wife went to the Greeniriar for a quick bite on a recommendation from a good friend since we just moved to the area recently. They recommended ordering the steak sandwich off the bar menu. He said a lot of people don't realize that they have a bar menu. We each got the steak sandwich and it was awful. The prime rib piece was not fresh or even warm. It definitely had the pre-cooked look as the marble in the piece of meat was very firm and cool. Since the was very shortly before 6PM you knew darn well it wasn't freshly cooked that day. After sending it back twice to at least warm it up, we gave up and paid the bill. The manager even came over and his attitude needed to also warm up as he acted as if we were wrong to complain. We won't go back as we feel with this type of service, attitude and food it's not worth spending our money here.
