El Patio, opened in 1941, is the oldest Mexican restaurant in Des Moines and has been a regular dining destination for many residents ever since. As well as traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, El Patio also serves the blue corn tortillas and chiles of Santa Fe-style food. The most popular dish, the "Reicharito," is a baked burrito covered in cheese sauce and chili. The dish is named after Des Moines clothier and El Patio regular Bill Reichardt.

Rockin' Des Moines with the folks

My parents really like Des Moines. Being from Rockford, Ill., it doesn't take too much to impress. All my Mom really needs to see is the planters around downtown and she's happy. Here's my rockin' parents weekend.
