Filthy

We stopped here for a margarita on 5/5/2012. As soon as we walked in it smelled like the cattle barns at the Iowa State Fair. We sat at the little bar area up front and didn't get recognized for about 15 minutes. They finally served our margarita's (mediocre, no salt on glasses). The bar was wet and dirty. I walked to the restroom and I smelled urine before I even reached the door. The restroom was FILTHY. Urine everywhere and dried on the toilet seats. The sink area was soaked and dirty. There was a pump dishing washing liquid to wash your hands and a roll of paper towels that was soaked from laying on the wet sink area. We barely finished our margarita's and left. Rude, rude service. They acted like we were bothering them. I will never ever go near this disgusting place again. Oh, and we paid $7 per margarita and they were horrible!!!

La Hacienda = YUCK!
By AGRL25, December 15, 2009

This restaurant is single handily the grossest restaurant in all of Des Moines IA. The food was so bad I took one bite of everything and stopped eating. I went to public school I have had my share of nasty food but nothing this bad ever! If you like food with absolutely no taste that looks like it has been sitting out ALL DAY and has the most disgusting sauce slathered all over it... eat here. The staff were sitting out on the dining-room floor chatting and laughing, which is why they got a 1 star from me as well. I didn't eat my food and neither did my daughter and they would not give us any discount, Save your money eat at Wendy's, or you will mourn the loss of your $30.00 like we are right now.

Burned hands
By thunderball27, October 8, 2009

They brought me my fajitas, and warned me not to touch the sizzling pan. Much appreciated. But I still had to touch the foil-wrapped tortillas sitting on the pan, which burned my hand and covered it in grease. My other hand was definitely not happy to find that the "fixin's" plate was just as hot as the cast-iron pan. After my three tortillas ran out, I figured there was little to no chance of getting more, since my server was lounging about with the other servers in another section; later, I asked for a to-go box, which they put in front of me. This meant I had to touch the hot pan they had warned me not to touch--and the plate they didn't--in order to box up my own food. And yes, there was a little "hot-pad" wrapped around the handle of the pan, but it did nothing to prevent me from, of course, burning my hand.

Happy Burritos! :)

This restaurant has great food! I highly recommend the happy burritos! However, I do agree that sometimes they are a little rude with their service. Though, I have only had ONE bad experience in about 20! I love this place! Great food!!

Can't Believe People Come Here Regularly
By AudreyDawn, October 4, 2008

If it wasn't for the indecent service, poor quality of food, or the lack of utter caring by staff... Sure, I'd come back! My mother came into town from Washington and as new resident of Iowa, we figured we would check out the Mexican "hot-spot" people were raving about. It was beyond embarrassing. Every meal came at a different time, and the youngest & hungriest got his food Last. Not only that, but one of the dishes that was brought to our table, was one we didn't even order! I asked for no rice or beans, just the burrito, so they put the rice and beans In my burrito. The food was absolutely Bland and tasteless, and for Mexican food, that's a feet I can't believe! My mother, who was the first to receive her food, was finished eating altogether by the time the last two plates were carried out to the table. I actually had to ask my husband what kind of meat was in my food, because I couldn't recognize it! I would Never go back and I am completely surprised they were as busy as they were. If you're ever in Washington State, check out Puerto Vallarta, you won't come back home!

Great food!

I've been going to La Hacienda for years. Back when they first opened, it was a great addtion to the southside. They have huge portions that are delivered to your table in record time and the margaritas are the best in town. Everything is reasonably priced. They just moved to a bigger location across from Southridge Mall to accommodate all of their regulars and new customers. They now even have a nicely sized outdoor patio.
You can't go wrong here!
