When happy high schoolers become cheesy college students

College can do wonders for the brain and alcohol tolerance, but it’s almost always a bad idea for television series that got their start following around high school kids. While the plight of high schoolers is universal, college kids tend to just be selfish and annoying (AKA: not that fun to watch).
It doesn’t help matters that writers and producers often start running out of steam a few years in. The college storyline just happens to coincide with a time when most shows are ready to die—and a lot of them should have. We can think of ten, in particular, that probably could have called it a day after “Pomp & Circumstance” played at high school graduation. —By Michael O'Connell, Special to Metromix
