Places I wish were open late night

I miss the days of being able to eat anything after the bars closed in Iowa City.

    Tasty Tacos

    Tasty Tacos - 5

8549 Hickman Road - Urbandale (Des Moines Metro)

Why they aren't open later baffles me. This location, near the 86th street bars, or the location on East Grand and East 14th would make a killing.

    Panchero's Mexican Grill - 4

3265 100th St. - Urbandale (Des Moines Metro)

Panchero's burritos are just better after bar close. Just ask the hundreds of people who wait in line in Iowa City.

    Olympic Flame Restaurant

    Olympic Flame Restaurant - 4 1/2

514 E. Grand Ave. - Des Moines (East Village)

Aside from the occasional street vendor who might sell gyros downtown, Olympic Flame is the only gyro purveyor downtown and could see an influx of hungry patrons after 1 a.m.

    Django, Hotel Fort Des Moines

Django, Hotel Fort Des Moines - 4 1/2

    210 10th St. - Des Moines (Downtown)

Although they are open later than the average place, 1 a.m. really doesn't allow for people to drink until last call and still eat a Django Dog or duck fat fries, or a rare but underrated late night treat, steak.

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar - 4

6925 Mills Civic Parkway - West Des Moines (Jordan Creek)

Although not my favorite wing stop, most of my favorite wing places are bars, and thus, close at bar close. Being able to take down a variety of flavors of wings and watch Sportscenter to catch up on the sports action of the day is a great way to wind down to bed.

There is never a bad time for sushi, unless you feel like you are about to puke.

    Gateway Market and Cafe

    Gateway Market and Cafe - 2 1/2

2002 Woodland Ave. - Des Moines (Downtown)

They have anything one could want. We used to raid the freezers at Hy-Vee for subpar food (Totino's anyone?) - when I want to feel like I've grown up without actually doing so, a grocer like Gateway fits the bill.

Gyros!

I love everything about gyros! The Des Moines metropolitan area is not filled with Greek restaurants like some larger metro areas, but these are a few of my favorites.
