Report this commentThis great boutique is run by 5 lovely Des Moines ladies and has some beautiful local creations, including jewelry.

Black Cat Cafe -
3701 Ingersoll Ave. - Des Moines (Ingersoll Avenue)
Report this commentThis great local coffee shop has amazing specialty drinks, fabulous crepes, and a wonderful, beautiful-looking staff. Stop by on Tuesday nights for their foreign film night or on a weekend morning/early afternoon for brunch. The atmosphere is also sultry enough to take a date... try the Brazilian jazz night for a sexy thrill.

The Lift -
222 Fourth St. - Des Moines (Court Avenue District)
Report this commentThis is one of my favorite bars. It's cozy, the bartenders are great, and I've made quite a few good friends there. Monday night Rock Band has become a ritual.

A Dong -
1511 High St. - Des Moines (Downtown)
Report this commentIn my opinion, this is one of the best priced Vietnamese restaurants in Des Moines. They have an extensive vegetarian menu, yummy pho, and cute waiters.

Miyabi 9 -
512 E. Grand Ave. - Des Moines (East Village)
Report this commentGreat sushi at great prices. You also won't have to put up with most of the "trendy" folks who frequent Taki. This is the only place to eat sushi near downtown. And when I say only, it means there are others, but you shouldn't bother with them.

Gong Fu Tea -
414 E. Sixth St. - Des Moines (East Village)
Report this commentThe best tea in Des Moines in a relaxed, low-key atmosphere. This is a nice place for a first date, as you can get cozy while sitting Japanese style on the floor with your individual pots of tea.

Ritual Cafe -
1301 Locust St., Suite D - Des Moines (Downtown)
Report this commentThis independent coffee house is ten times better than Starbucks. Take the extra 5 minutes out of your day to walk down to 13th St. I promise that you won't regret it. Try their Mexican drinking chocolate. It is to die for.

Pho Ha Dao -
1521 Second Ave. - Des Moines (Des Moines Metro)
Report this commentThe best pho in town, according to this Asian cuisine addict.

Gyros!
I love everything about gyros! The Des Moines metropolitan area is not filled with Greek restaurants like some larger metro areas, but these are a few of my favorites.
